What is the Deposit Guarantee Scheme?

The Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS) protects the money you hold in accounts at banks and credit unions licensed by the CBCS to operate in Sint Maarten. Should your institution in Sint Maarten go bankrupt, you will get your money back up to Cg 50,000 per bank or Cg 25,000 per credit union. The protection is per person per institution, not per account.

How high is the protection of the DGS Sint Maarten?

The deposit guarantee scheme protects up to Cg 50,000 per person per bank and up to Cg 25,000 per person per credit union. This includes the accrued interest up to the date of bankruptcy of the bank or credit union. This limit applies to your money in all your accounts combined at the same institution, including the money you hold in a joint account.

Who is protected by the DGS Sint Maarten?

The deposit guarantee scheme applies to all types of account holders, both residents and non-residents, such as:

– adults and minors

– individuals and companies

– foundations and other non-profit organizations


The accounts of financial institutions are not protected by the DGS Sint Maarten.

How do you know if your bank or credit union is covered by the deposit guarantee scheme?

Banks and credit unions that have a license from the CBCS to operate in Sint Maarten are covered by the DGS. You can check this on the page Which banks and credit unions?
