About the DGS
Learn how the Deposit Guarantee Scheme Sint Maarten works and who is protected.
Introduction
The DGS Sint Maarten automatically protects your money, up to Cg 50,000 per person per bank or up to Cg 25,000 per person per credit union. The maximum protected amount applies to your money in all accounts combined at the same institution, including the money you hold in a joint account.
In case your bank or credit union goes bankrupt, the Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS) ensures that you regain access to your protected money within 20 working days. As part of the DGS Sint Maarten, a Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF) Sint Maarten is being established. Each year, all covered institutions must contribute to the fund until it reaches the full amount needed to protect people’s money.
Are you protected?
You are protected by the DGS Sint Maarten if:
You are formally registered as the account holder. This applies to all types of account holders, both residents and non-residents, such as:
● adults and minors
● individuals and companies
● foundations and other non-profit organizations
Except financial institutions, who are not protected by the DGS Sint Maarten.
Your account is a checking account, savings account, term deposit, or a credit card with a positive balance. This also applies to joint accounts.
